The Australian Miniature Pony
Origin: The Breed is derived from selectively breeding down in
miniature, the bigger known pony breeds such as the
Australian Stud Book Pony, Arabian Pony, Palouse and Welsh
Pony Breeds they are then crossed with Shetland ponies. To
be able to register the pony it has to be under 87 centimetres
and has to have at least one parents registered with the
Australian Miniature pony society (A.M.P.S)
FOALS: When born they are sometimes as small as 12 inches
but average up to about 21 inches when born.
Life span: normally 20+ years
Versatility: Miniature ponies are very versatile and can be used
for a number of things such as riding (small children 10 Years
and under), pulling a cart (strong enough to pull an adult and a
child). They can also be shown but they are just as happy to be
some ones pet. being so small they do not need a large area as
big horses do, all they need is a large backyard.
